Sustainability

In crafting premium oak barrels we are dedicated to ensuring healthy, productive forests that will continue for generations to come. That's why we are committed to only using oak that has achieved a sustainable certification. Our French oak barrels are certified through the Programme for the Endorsement of forest Certification, or PEFC, and our American oak barrels are certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative fiber Sourcing Standard.

We bring this approach forward into our production process by utilizing 100% of the oak that we purchase. wood that does not go into stave or heading material is utilized internally as fuel or sold as high quality by-products to be used in other industries.

“Considering the long-term impact of our production process is a cornerstone of our efforts to become a more sustainable cooperage and decrease our carbon footprint.”

Sustainable Cooperage

Once the white oak logs leave the forest, we continue our sustainability efforts by utilizing nearly 100% of each oak log. These efforts mean that T.W. Boswell operates one of the most sustainable, environmentally conscious cooperages in the world.

Harvesting Improves Forest Health

Forests are an important natural resource and we are committed to doing our part in promoting their sustainability through selectively harvesting trees at their peak maturity. Harvesting mature trees helps renew the forest and therefore is essential to keeping forests healthy. The key is to harvest trees in a sustainable manner.

Enhances Wildlife

Enhances Wildlife

Selectively harvesting a forest improves the availability of food for wildlife. Remaining trees tend to be more vigorous and produce more seeds and nuts for wildlife.

Promotes Growth

Removing mature trees at their growth peak creates more room for the remaining trees, allowing the younger trees to fully grow with the new increase of sunlight and moisture.
